Gift a Gift of Refugee Response

December 08, 2017

All purchases from The Good Buy fund the global human rights work of UUSC, including strengthening protection and integration mechanisms for refugees fleeing violence and destabilization. Here are just a few of the recent impacts gifts like yours have accomplished:

  • In Toledo, Ohio, US Together works to facilitate economic integration of Syrian refugees in Toledo through culturally competent employment readiness, financial literacy education, and hands-on individual support. Last year, nearly all participants in US Together’s program were able to save money, create family budgets, and open checking accounts – crucial steps towards integration.
  • In Serbia, our partner the Asylum Protection Center used its mobile team of aid professionals to provide 25,595 refugees with critical information about legal rights, 1,117 with free legal aid, 874 with psychosocial support, and 4,560 with humanitarian aid.
  • Community Initiatives for Visiting Immigrants in Confinement (CIVIC) built the first national immigration detention hotline connecting people in immigration detention to their families, while documenting human and civil rights abuses. In the year since the hotline was established, hotline advocates have answered 13,818 calls and conducted a total of 4,730 intakes with people in immigration detention.
