Gifts for Unexpected Guests

November 23, 2015

Of course, you never know who might drop by unexpectedly during the holidays with a gift in hand for you. One of the best pieces of advice I’ve ever heard to handle this situation with panache is to wrap up a few small token all-purpose gifts ahead of time and keeping them tucked in your closet for when the occasion presents itself. No sweat — whatever’s inside, you’ll just open the door and grab one. It will make you look like the most thoughtful person in the world, and you’ll never again utter those awkward words: “But I didn’t get you anything!”

Here are some ideas to get you started!

Belgian truffles gift box
Eight decadent chocolate truffles in exquisite flavors! Who doesn’t like chocolate? No one.

Jam Stand jams
A small-batch jar of jam, tied in a ribbon. Choose from any of the artisinally crafted flavors like rum banana or bourbon blueberry. Flavor me impressed.

Hand in Hand soaps
First off, they smell amazing when you open the box. And what a useful gift, everyone needs soap. Plus, you can point out to each bar that you give, a bar is donated to those in need, supporting clean water projects around the world.

Cool stripes koozie
Whether they are keeping their portable water bottle snug or their beer bottle cold, this useful tool is perfect for tailgaters of all stripes.

Sleep balm ornament
Who’s getting enough rest around the holidays? Not many parents, that’s for sure. This ornament with a tin of sleep balm will be a welcome respite for anyone who needs some Zs.

Ragg wool gat
Great style for all — everyone needs a head warmer when things get cold.

Bourbon sugars and spices trail gift set
Give a taste of sweet and spicy finishing sugars and salts for the foodies (or the drinkers!) in your life.

Travel tin candles
The ultimate portable aromatherapy. Light a candle instead of cursing the darkness, the saying goes! You won’t be muttering curses when you know you’ve got gifts on hand for any surprise that may come your way.
