Bag Monster

January 16, 2015

One of the pieces of legislation we're keeping an eye on in 2015: California's S.B. 270. Will voter referendum signatures repeal this law, the nation's first statewide ban on single-use plastic bags at grocery and convenience stores, signed by Gov. Jerry Brown and scheduled to take effect in July 2015? Will other states and cities (like Baltimore) follow California's lead in banning the plastic bag?

As we watch how things unfold, our good friends at ChicoBag remind us with their Bag Monster campaign what "one year, one shopper, 500 bags" actually looks like.

Andy Keller (above), entrepreneur and activist, has traveled the country as the dreaded Bag Monster to increase support for reducing single-use plastic bags. Keller is the founder and CEO of the ChicoBag Company and a founding member of the Reusable Bag Association.
