Back-to-School Supplies from Tree Smart

September 08, 2014

Since 1998, Tree Smart has been making rolled-up recycled newspaper pencils. Out of the U.S. Pacific Northwest, they spent nearly eight years fine-tuning the manufacturing process, experiencing many challenges in creating this one-of-a-kind item.

Whole newspaper sheets are tightly rolled around HB high-quality #2 graphite without mulching or mixing with toxic recycling chemicals. A special adhesive formula is used to bind the newsprint together into a cohesive core that is as hard and strong as wood! They sharpen easily, just like wood, and most users report that they last longer than wood pencils.

It’s also fun to see newsprint type and image on the pencil surface as you sharpen them down. Try a pack of 12 regular pencils or a tube of artist’s colored pencils!
